Toward Zero Deaths
Submitted by Jennifer Vail-Storrs on February 20, 2012 - 2:47pmShawn Gillen, host of the City Works series, was in this morning along with Jason Engeldinger of the Minnesota State Patrol and Steve Schaar and Jeff Carlson from the Grand Rapids Police Department. They talked about a drunken driving enforcement program that used to be called safe and sober but is now called Toward Zero Deaths. Itasca County was on the list of the 13 deadliest counties in the state of Minnesota and was on that list for many years. This program is designed to have a high visibility aspect to it so for big events like the Deer River Wild Rice Festival, Tall Timber Days or Bovey Farmer’s Day law enforcement from surrounding communities will be grouped together, as a team, patrolling the busier cities to discourage traffic violations. If you’d like to learn more about the TZD program you can watch City Works anytime right here at www.watchictv.org.
